Road Improvements Committee (dissolved 03/2022)
The Road Improvement Committee was formed by a group of residents who are concerned about the condition of the roads in our community.  Many areas are in very poor condition and most residents would agree that something has to be done soon.

The Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) has no inclination or budget to repair or replace the subdivision roads. The extent of their responsibility is to patch potholes and we can all see how that has worked out over the years.

RCOC has a program called the Special Assessment District (SAD), which allows subdivisions to request their roads be repaired/replaced.
Full details of this program can be found on their website here.

Committee members went door-to-door in May and early June, gathering signatures on an Expression Of Interest petition.  This is the first step in requesting RCOC to perform an analysis of our streets and determine how much it will cost to make these repairs.

The completed Expression Of Interest forms were compiled and submitted for consideration to RCOC in early August.  We are waiting to hear back from RCOC on the status of our request.  This could take several months, depending on the workload at RCOC and our position in the queue.

We will share more information as it becomes available.   Stay tuned fore more...!

Update April 2018:  RCOC has acknowledged receipt of the Expression of Interest petition.  RCOC notified us that the petition has been validated (meaning all signatures are valid) and they expect to start their analysis activities to determine the amount of work required.  Hopefully we will see RCOC personnel in the area soon!

Update September 2019:  RCOC held a meeting with all home owners in the project area to present preliminary construction plans and cost estimates at 59 West Banquet Hall, Monday September 16, 2019 at 7:00pm.

Update October 2019: During the fall HHHA meeting, a couple people expressed an interest to volunteer to walk door-to-door with the RCOC petitions.  The committee is planning to pull the petitions toward the end of October.

Update February 2020: Due to family obligations, Linda Drallos has been forced to step down from her position as head of the Road Improvements Committee. One of our residents has agreed to step in for Linda. Linda will provide this resident with the documents that she has gathered thus far. The new lead for this project will review the paperwork and the committee will move forward with the next steps.

Update August 2020: Greg Nicozisis has generously agreed to gather resources and provide our sub with information regarding the roads project.  Greg held a public meeting on August 27, 2020 in the Tomahawk Outlot which included a couple of guest speakers followed by time for Q&A.

Update September 2020: A postcard/email campaign was initiated to determine the level of interest of homeowners to participate in the project.

Update October 2020: The results of the postcard/email campaign determined that residents are not interested in continuing with the RCOC project by 60:40 ratio.  Greg will research going through private road contractors and present a new plan in the Spring 2021.

Update January 2021: Greg Nicozisis has been working with a private company using a consultant to provide a proposal for cost and other details. Although still in the early stages, the new proposal is expected to include an expanded number of properties, some outside our sub, and should indicate a substantial decrease in cost for each property. Greg and HHHA Board members will attend the March Township meeting and request information regarding several questions that have come up during this research.

Update August 2021: Greg Nicozisis presented the status of his efforts so far at the public meeting in August.  Based on a show of hands, those who attended agreed that they would like him to continue working with the private contractor to get realistic costs and project details to repair the roads throughout the subdivision and adjacent areas.  We hope to get an update on his progress at a future meeting in 2022.

Update March 2022: Greg has worked tirelessly and has exhausted all possible resources from local residents, to officials at the township, county, and state levels, the Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) and private construction companies.  There is no more he can do to push this project ahead.  Due to expired time limits within the Special Assessment District process, any efforts to get the roads paved will have to start from scratch.    After four long years of effort, the project has been closed.  Greg's final project update can be found here.

REMINDER: The HHHA, as an entity, is neither an advocate nor opponent of the road project. The Board has offered to
support Greg in his efforts by distributing information to our membership as it is received.
